It’s the first day of summer, but doesn’t feel it in Queensland today.
Maroochydore is expecting a maximum temperature of just 21 degrees, while Gympie’s only set to reach 19 degrees today, as a low pressure systems moves across the state.
It’s also brining plenty of rain to the region.
Gabriel Branesco from the Bureau of Meteorology says parts of the Sunshine and Cooloola Coast recorded between 20mm to 30mm overnight.
“Gympie itself – 29 millimetres recorded and Maroochydore is 31mm on Sugar Bag Road, further north near Noosa, 30mm from Boreen Point.”
The Senior Forecaster says the wet and cool weather will continue over the coming days.
“This low continued to develop last night, and will continue to do so today, as it moves southeast offshore today and Friday…causing quite a bit of rainfall along the Queensland Coast.
“Maximum temperatures will be well below average.”
Up to 50mm is possible again today across the Sunshine Coast.
Severe Weather Warnings have also been issued for dangerous surf and damaging winds along the coastal fringe from Fraser Island down to the border.
Winds averaging 55 to 70 km/h, along with peak gusts of up to 100 km/h, are expected to develop over the warning area from midday today and persist until late Friday.
Damaging winds are most likely along the eastward and southeastward facing coastlines.
Meanwhile dangerous surf conditions are expected to pick up this afternoon and last until late Saturday, with possible beach erosion.
Maroochydore, Noosa Heads and Rainbow Beach among the areas in the firing line.
