A Bli Bli man has been hit with a more serious charge on the same day as the funeral of the boy he is alleged to have hit and killed in his ute.
12 year-old Dwaylon Smith-Saunders died two weeks after he was struck by the ute on David Low Way while riding his scooter at Bli Bli on Father’s Day last month.
The 27 year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.
He was previously charged with drink driving, allegedly returning a blood alcohol reading of .069 after the crash.
Meanwhile, a large crowd turned out for Dwaylon’s funeral yesterday.
His sister Letitia Smith told mourners he was a kind hearted and generous boy, always willing to lend a helping hand and someone who’d brighten up anyone’s day with a smile.
He was laid to rest in a coffin in the colours of his favourite NRL team, the Brisbane Broncos.
