Sunshine Coast Lightning has confirmed its leadership group for the 2025 Super Netball season.
After taking the team to finals in 2024, Steph Fretwell will lead the Sunshine Coast side for the fourth consecutive year.
The club’s leadership team will enter the new season unchanged, with Tara Hinchliffe and Liz Watson supporting Fretwell as vice-captains for another season.
Fretwell is looking forward to leading the team as captain for another season.
“I’m filled with pride to not only be part of this club, but to be captain for another year, Fretwell said.
“There has been a lot of change over the years, but it’s exciting to take the same group into another season and see what we can achieve in 2025,” she said.
“We’ve definitely got a new energy and fight this year and I can’t wait to get out there on court and show our members what we’ve been working on.”
Lightning Head Coach, Belinda Reynolds praised the leadership group and what they bring to the team.
“Steph is a big game player who leads by example on and off the court,” Reynolds said.
“She’s an incredible leader as she holds high standards for herself and the group, and has such immense pride for our club,” she said.
“Liz and Tara complement Steph’s leadership qualities and are exceptionally strong leaders in their own right.
“Liz brings a tenacity to compete to each and every training session and game, and is a well-respected team member who has taken the time to build formidable relationships here at Lightning.
“Tara is a role model within our team but also our community.
“Her ability to connect with people is the best I’ve seen and she’s a smart player who continuously dedicates her time to develop our younger talent.”
“I have complete confidence that Steph, Liz and Tara will drive high standards, lead by example and empower the strength of our group to fulfill their potential and fight together in 2025.”
