Major legacy infrastructure for 2032 Olympics

Major Olympic upgrades have been approved for the Sunshine Coast with the State Government confirming its 2032 Games master plan.

The heavy rail line will now run from Beerwah to Birtinya with a bus system then taking passengers to Maroochydore CBD and the airport.

It has been nicknamed “The Wave”.

It will connect with a sports arena and athletes village in the Maroochydore city centre.

The long awaited Mooloolah River interchange will also be constructed to ease traffic congestion.

The outdoor stadium upgrade at Kawana has been approved with more than 10-thousand seats, along with the mountain bike facility at Parklands.

However, despite being recommended for approval by the independent review and having funding approved by the former Labor Government last year, the Kawana indoor stadium with 11 courts and 6000 seats has been scrapped.
