A new on-ramp to the Bruce Highway is now in action on the Sunshine Coast.
The upgraded ramp opened to motorists on Wednesday night, allowing southbound traffic to enter the highway from Mons Road at Forest Glen.
The new entry is wider and about 180 metres longer than the original, making the stretch safer for merging drivers.
The milestone is part of a jointly funded, $301.25 million, Bruce Highway – Maroochydore Road and Mons Road Interchanges Upgrade.
The project includes upgrading both the Maroochydore Road and Mons Road interchanges and providing two-way service roads on the eastern and western sides of the highway for local traffic.
In the past couple of months, two upgraded exit ramps and a new, four-lane, concrete bridge over the highway have also opened to traffic.
When complete, the project will improve safety and efficiency and significantly increase capacity at the Mons Road and Maroochydore Road interchanges and along this section.
This project is jointly funded on an 80:20 basis, with the Australian Government contributing $241 million and the Queensland Government contributing $60.25 million.
The project is expected to be completed mid-2023, weather and construction conditions permitting, and will support over 380 jobs over the life of the project.
