Rangers are investigating a recent dingo attack on K’gari.
A five-year-old boy suffered multiple bite wounds to his head, arms and body when the animal jumped on him while he was playing on a beach near the remote Ocean Lake camping area on Sunday.
His parents were nearby supervising and the boy’s father quickly intervened.
The child was flown to Hervey Bay Hospital for treatment but was in a stable condition.
The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service says it’s providing assistance to the family.
It’s also working to identify which dingo was involved in the attack.
It is believed the animal was not provoked.

Warning for campers
QPWS is reminding visitors and residents on K’gari to keep children under constant supervision.
People are encouraged to be dingo safe and report any negative dingo encounters to a QPWS ranger, call the number above, or email dingo.ranger@des.qld.gov.au as soon as possible.
Visitors to Fraser Island are reminded to be dingo safe at all times:
- Always stay close (within arm’s reach) of children and young teenagers
- Always walk in groups
- Camp in fenced areas where possible
- Do not run. Running or jogging can trigger a negative dingo interaction
- Never feed dingoes
- Lock up food stores and iceboxes (even on a boat)
- Never store food or food containers in tents, and
- Secure all rubbish, fish and bait.
